Logos Q&A with Dr. Hershael York and Brian Renshaw

In a recent webinar, Brian Renshaw, Vice President for the Global Campus, and Dr. Hershael York, Dean of the School of Theology, introduced and explained Southern Seminary’s exciting new Logos Initiative—a major step forward in equipping students for faithful ministry and rigorous academic study.

Beginning Fall 2025, every master’s-level student at Southern Seminary—whether studying on campus, online, or in modular courses—will receive their required textbooks directly in Logos Bible Software at no extra cost. Unlike textbook rental programs, these resources become a permanent part of students’ personal Logos libraries, remaining available long after graduation.

Dr. York, who has used Logos extensively since the 1990s, discussed how the software has enriched his preaching, classroom teaching, and personal scholarship. From accessing thousands of books instantly—including rare, out-of-print resources—to using Logos’ powerful study and sermon-preparation tools, Dr. York emphasized that Logos significantly enhances how students and pastors study Scripture, understand theology, and prepare for ministry.

The webinar addressed practical details about textbook access, integration with Canvas, the continued benefits available after graduation, and upcoming training opportunities to ensure students are comfortable using Logos effectively. By removing barriers to accessing essential theological resources, Southern Seminary is committed to supporting students both academically and practically in their calling.
