We're in the break week between Fall 1 and Fall 2. Fall 2 begins next Monday, October 5. This week I want to ask you to spend a small part of the break on something other than catching up. I also want to put two Preview Days on your radar, one at Boyce College and one at Southern.

Student Tip: Reflection

When break week comes that brings a week of welcomed rest (or possibly finishing up an assignment or two for Fall 1!) but you're also probably reading over the syllabus for your next class. Both are good uses or the week but I also want to add one thing for you to consider.

Sometime before next Monday, take 20 to 30 minutes in prayer and maybe a little journaling, about your why. * Why are you actually in seminary? * What God has called you to during this season of life? * Is your mind focused on the things above or primarily focused on the things of this earth.

Pray that the Spirit would lead you through the next term and the next class and keep that why in focus when the reading piles up again.

It's easy to get bogged down in the day to day and never stop to think about why you're doing what you're doing. Christian ministry has its own version of this because we're surrounded by the things of God. There are tasks that need to be done, kids driven to baseball game, people in your church that need ministering to and the assignment that's due.

And if we're not careful all of that becomes the why.

The work that needs to be done on the outside crowds out the soul work that needs to be done on the inside

This doesn't have to be elaborate or fancy (though this is a perfect time to bring out some fancy coffee and the Aeropress). Grab a notebook, a pen, your Bible, and some quiet space and write out a few sentences about why you're doing this, where your own soul is right now, what your posture toward your classes has been over the last eight weeks, what you're learning and whether your eyes have stayed fixed on Christ through all of it.

Program News: Two Preview Days in October

Boyce College Preview Day is October 15 and 16.If you have a high schooler at home who's starting to think about college, or there's a student at your church who is, this is the link to send them. It's $25, which covers up to two nights of lodging and meals on Friday. They'll tour campus, sit in on a class, and see the dorms. Parents get their own time too, a parent edition of the campus life session on Thursday and a message and Q&A with Dr. Mohler for parents on Friday.

Boyce College Preview Day, October 15 and 16

Southern's Preview Day is Friday, October 23. I wrote about this a few weeks ago and I'll keep it short. If on-campus studies are something you're considering at any point during your degree, even as a question you haven't put words to yet, you're welcome to come as a current online student. Walk the campus, sit with faculty over a meal, and see what's going on here in Louisville. It's also $25, which covers two nights of lodging and your meals on Preview Day.
